Creating a Safe and Natural DIY Laundry Detergent: A Step-by-Step Guide

I never realized what a necessity laundry detergent was in my home. I knew, but I didn't really grasp its true importance until we ran out and it was my time to wash clothes again. But as a part of my homemaking journey, I'm making it a point to rely less on major corporations and more on raw ingredients and wisdom from others as I learn.

Disclaimer: This is my first time ever making laundry detergent. I retrieved this formula from someone else. This is not my original recipe.

What you'll need:

Step-by-step process

First, you'll want to grab a large mixing bowl. I didn't realize this at the time but this would've definitely come in handy! Once you have your bowl, grab some measuring cups, a mixing utensil and get ready to start the process.

Next, grab your ingredients. This is the fun part! Because I am a clean freak and thoroughly hate messes, I laid a towel out on my table to confine my mess to the towel. Expect for some ingredients to spill a little bit.

Thoroughly mix all ingredients in your bowl and transfer to a glass container if you didn't already combine your ingredients in the glass container. Store in a tightly sealed glass container and use 1-2 tablespoons per load.

My Honest Opinion

In my honest opinion, I enjoy not having to purchase laundry detergent. But I will say, either I am still coming out of being brainwashed into thinking I have to buy name brand or I'm still trying to get used to the type of clean that a DIY laundry detergent produces. I will say, I still need to figure out a solution to deeply stained items. But aside from that, I am pleased with the results. My laundry smells nice without being overfragranced and it is clean.

If you have made laundry detergent before, leave a comment below what you used and how you like it. Also, if you have a solution to to removing deeply stained items, please let me know! In the meantime, I'll be doing some research to see what I can do.

Thank you for joining me on this journey and I look forward to continuing to learn as I grow.
